Mauro Piani

 

] Born in Pesaro (Italy) on 6 July 1956, Mauro Piani is a well known figure in the world of International sailing. Actively involved in professional sailing since 1976, both on board as skipper and crew and, on the technical side, managing construction and racing projects.

1982/1983: Member of the Italian America’s Cup Azzurra team in Newport (Rhode Island, USA).

1984/1987: Member of the Italian America’s Cup Azzurra team in Perth (Western Australia).

1984/1985: Member of the Star Class Italian National Team.

1988/1999 : A list of his successes:                           

  • Winner of the Trofeo Costa Smeralda (1988), the Giraglia (1989 and1991), the Giro d’Italia a Vela (1991), the Rimini-Corfù-Rimini (1991 and 1992).  
  • Second in the Sardinia Cup with the Italian Team (1994).  
  • World Champion in 1991 and European Champion in 1998 in the 12 M class.
  • Maxi World Champion in 1999.

1995 : Project manager and skipper of the Open 60’ Nastro Azzurro.

1995/1996 : Project manager of the Farr Open 50’ Wiva.

2002/2003 : Technical Director of the Open 60’ Tiscali for the Around Alone Race (skipper Simone Bianchetti – finishing third overall).
